It’s hard to find the right person to put in front of the camera if you’re a TV car show executive, because you want to find someone who’s personable, knowledgeable, and who doesn’t have tons of baggage. A lot of the top car TV personalities have issues that haunt them in their personal lives—or even in their on-screen lives—and they can’t seem to get away from their issues.

It’s even harder to find these, because while bad TV show hosts are a dime a dozen, a watchable, liked host is like finding a needle in a haystack. There just aren’t that many out there, and most of them are already established enough to not need anyone’s help.

Finding that balance between a likable host and someone who people want to work with is hard to do. Here are 15 TV car show hosts that people don’t want to work with, and 5 that people do want to work with.
